Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens - better than the general public by the name of Queen Latifah, is an American performer, actress and acrobat. in film, music and on television, Queen Latifah has won the award of two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award and six additional Grammy nominations, and nods to her Emmy Award. Queen Latifah was the daughter of a Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior, was born and raised in Newark New Jersey. Latifah's mother and father divorced after Latifah was ten years old. Latifah was a student at a Catholic school, and she was educated at Newark New Jersey. She was a member of at the Baptist church. Latifah can be described as an Arabic word which means "delicate and compassionate". The cousin she had bestowed it on her in the age of eight. Always a tall girl the 5'10 tall Latifah was a forward on her basketball team in high school. At her school's game she performed "Home" from The Wiz. Latifah was part of Ladies Fresh, a rap group which launched her career in beatboxing. Latifah used to be a member of Flavor Unit - a group of rappers who were gathered around the producer, DJ Mark the 45 king. Mark James (aka DJ Mark the45King) recorded a sample of Queen Latifah rapper Princess of the Posse. He sent the recording to Yo! MTV Raps is Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music who was working for Latifah in the early days was awed by her song. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's first single.
